Your Instructors

Joshua Mackens

A former basketball junky turned pickleball player, Josh has tackled going professional in pickleball with an unmatched ferocity. Having improved from 3.5 to 5.0 in less than a year, his approach to getting better at the game speaks for itself. So much so that he started getting asked to give lessons, which led him to start The Pickleball Lab, seeing a deep need in Indy for professional coaching that helps players actually get better.

Josh feels like he knows how to help players get better, no matter the level, no matter the type of player. He attacks getting better at the game with high level methods for improvement and he brings those same methods to the court for his students, helping them progress in their pickleball game at an uncommon rates.

Josh is also an accomplished pickleball tournament player having won multiple gold medals in 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5 divisions. He has taken a step up recently to 5.0+ level tournaments where he continues to improve his standings each tournament, ready for that breakout 5.0+ tournament win.

Josh is a top tier coach. I've known Josh for about a year now, and his attention to detail is hard to match. He does a great job of understanding the finite details but keeping it at a high level for the player. If you want to improve your game at a steady or rapid pace, Josh can accommodate both. The systems he has in place for himself are impressive, and because of this, he has done all the hard leg work on understanding what it takes to truly level up. Beginner Pickleball Class Indy FAQ

Where do you host your Beginner Pickleball Classes?
We work with the Indianapolis Pickleball Club and a few other locations for our Beginner Pickleball Classes call us at (317) 674-3162 for more details on location.
What do I need to attend the class?
All you will need is athletic wear, athletic shoes, water and towel if you like. Paddles and balls are all provided. You may bring your own paddle if you like.
What are my next steps after the class?
After the clinic, we would encourage you to go out to one of your local parks or join a Pickleball facility in Indy and start playing! We will create an article soon on the best places to play in Indy but for now, refer to this Facebook post to get started. We’d also encourage you to take one of our 200 series lessons like our 201 Class on “Transition” or 202 Class on “Dinking” that is meant to start to help you understand the strategy part of Pickleball as well as mechanics, like how to hit a 3rd shot drop, how to hit a volley, etc. Ask about these classes when you contact us to schedule your beginner pickleball class!

 

Cancellation Policy

All classes have a 48-hour cancellation policy. If you cancel within 48 hours of your scheduled lesson, we cannot issue you a refund. This is because it’s unlikely we’ll be able to fill your spot at such short notice, and a less-than-full class can affect the quality of the experience for everyone. This policy is designed to protect all participants, ensuring that the lesson goes ahead as planned and that no one cancels last-minute. It also helps us maintain a higher turnout rate, creating a more fun and engaging environment for all.
